Sadly Ironic Food Issues Perpetuating Hunger

Hey Mates,

Use this sectionto post link that expand on our earlier discussion of how hunger is perpetuated through seemingly ridiculous practices: exporting food while citizens go hungry, raising crops for biofuels, etc...

  1. So I definitely searched for a while on export/famine ironies and only found books and blogs. A lot of them had to do with the Ukraine and Ethiopia. These two regions are known to be relatively fertile but the famines are political in nature as the government prevents farming techniques or use all the hard labor for exported goods. I found a book called "Famine Crimes" that anyone who's really interested may want to get a hold of. www.commondreams.org/headline/2009/08/30-3

  2. Here is a fairly good summation of the corporate (Monsanto) perspective on how they view their role in improving the lives of farmers through offering GMOs that can grow more, yield more, etc.
